The Alabama Forest Owners’ Association (AFOA) serves more than 7,000 members and offers a wide range of benefits, educational resources, and ongoing programming – including an active podcast (Capital Ideas Live) – but its website was built on a platform dating back to 2008. The goal of this project was to modernize both the front-end and back-end experience while preserving and improving access to a large and complex library of content, including news, events, presentations, and member resources.
Beyond a simple redesign, the objective was to create a highly organized, intuitive, and future-ready membership platform – one that could support AFOA’s current offerings while scaling with the organization over time. Internally, we joked about building “the best membership website ever,” but that aspiration guided every decision: clarity, usability, performance, and long-term flexibility were treated as essential, not optional.
This website design for Alabama Forest Owners Association delivers a modern, member-first experience that transforms a large and complex content ecosystem into a clear, intuitive, and highly usable platform. Members can now easily discover events, access educational resources, explore archives, listen to podcast content, and connect with forestry professionals – all through well-structured navigation and powerful search tools.
From the administrative side, AFOA staff gained a streamlined back-end that makes updating listings, managing content, and supporting advertisers significantly easier and more sustainable long-term. The result is a scalable, future-ready membership website that reflects AFOA’s leadership in the forestry community while providing ongoing value to its members and partners.
